NATIONAL GEOPHYSICAL
RESEARCH INSTITUTE (NGRI)
MANDATE
- To carry out
basic and applied research in the frontier areas of solid earth geophysics.
- To obtain information
about earth's interior by the study of electrical, magnetic, thermal and
gravitational fields.
- To study the
history of the lithosphere and crustal evolution in space and time, and
to carry out integrated geological, geochemical, geophysical and geochronological
studies.
- To device new
methods, techniques and instruments for the exploration of minerals and
ground water resources by geo physical methods.
- To study the
processes involved in earthquakes and related phenomena.
- To participate
in national and international geoscientific programmes.
MAIN FACILITIES
- Laboratory facilities
for geochemical, geological and geochronological studies: X-Ray fluorescence
spectromenter, atomic absorption spectrometer, electron probe microanalyser,
plasma source mass spectrometer, UV-vis spectrophotometer, thermal ionization
mass spectrometer, g-ray spectrometer, helium sniffer, etc.
- Stable isotopes,
radiocarbon and tririum, tracer and paleomagnetic and high temoerature
and pressure laboratories.
