The three national science
academies of India (Indian National Science
Academy, New Delhi, Indian
Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, and National
Academy of Sciences, Allahabad)
confer fellowships to outstanding Indian
scientists every year through
election. The number of fellows by each
academy is restricted and
does not exceed 50 each year.
Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Prize
The Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar
Prize is the highest scientific award
conferred to scientists
and technologists in India. The award, offered by
the Council of Scientific
& Industrial Research, is restricted to scientists
under 45 years of age, based
on the work done in India, in six disciplines:
Physics, Chemistry, Biology,
Mathematics, Engineering, and Earth, Atmosphere,
Ocean and Planetary Sciences.
The prize currently comprises a cash award
of Rs. 100,000, a citation
and an annual life-long book grant of Rs.
5,000.
