MAFF's comment: "Poor tape translation after 25 days, perhaps
an encoder fault. Initially this seemed to cause spurious 64, 128,
and 256 values to be included and the series was edited to remove
these. But eventually, after 56 days, these became too numerous
and it was difficult to have confidence in the amended bit values.
The series was therefore terminated on 6 Sep 90. Data after 6 Aug 90
should be used with caution, however."

CMDAC notes that the speed series still contains some anomalous
spikes, though it is not possible to identify errors with confidence.
No alternate file has been prepared.
