The speed series of this record contains an unusual event,
a steep decrease followed by an exceptionally steep increase,
on 15 Aug 89. This event may not be natural.

CMDAC has prepared an alternate version of this file in which
a direction spike on 15 Aug 89 has been smoothed by interpolation.
The spike may be related to the speed event described above,
though it preceeds it by two hours. Both versions of the file
are available at this site.
