THIS TIME SERIES IS A HIGHLY MANIPULATED DATA RECORD FROM MKR #5 IN FLORIDA BAY THE FILE REPRESENTS ALONG-CHANNEL CURRENTS AT THE STUDY SITE TIME SPAN REPRESENTED BY THIS RECORD = 1100EST APR 10 THRU 1800EST JUL 29, 1991 THE CURRENT METER HAD EXTREME BIOLOGICAL FOULING SITE LOCATION: 25 deg 05.77' N, 81 deg 01.80' W Data were recorded 1.5 m above the bottom in 3 m of water adjacent to Channel Marker "5" in northwest Florida Bay THE DATA USED TO CONSTRUCT THIS FILE IS CT91FBAY.D1 THE RAW DATA WERE CONVERTED TO POLAR COORDINATES AND THE RESULTING POLAR PLOT TO DETERMINE ALONG-CHANNEL ORIENTATION SHOWED A BI-LOBED DISTRIBUTION INDICATING THAT THE CURRENT METER WAS NOT PIVOTTING PROPERLY ON ITS MOORING. THIS PROBLEM DIDN'T SHOW UP UNTIL THE SECOND HALF OF THE STUDY PERIOD. OBSERVATION 1 THRU 1299 WERE RUN THRU PROGRAM PTOXY93.FTN TO OBTAIN THE ALONG-CHANNEL COMPONENT. DIRECTION .GE. 267. .AND. DIRECTION .LE. 315. THEN DIRECTION=DIRECTION-17.) THE OUTPUT FROM THIS PROGRAM WAS THEN RUN THRU PROGRAM PTOXY93.FTN. THE TWO HALVES WERE COMBINED AND RUN THROUGH SYNC TO REMOVE TIMING ERRORS. THE DATA WERE LOW-PASS FILTERED USING PROGRAM FILTER85.FTN. HARMONIC CONSTANTS WERE CALCULATED USING THE FIRST 29-DAYS OF THE TIME SERIES AND PROGRAM PREDICT.FTN WAS RUN TO OBTAIN THE PREDICTED TIDES FOR THAT TIME PERIOD. IN MINITAB THE FILTERED DATA WERE SUBTRACTED FROM THE TOTAL ALONG-CHANNEL CURRENTS TO OBTAIN THE MEASURED TIDE. THE PREDICTED TIDE WAS THEN DEVIDED BY THE MEASURED TIDE. THAT QUOTIENT WAS THEN MODIFIED BY REDUCING ANY VALUE GREATER THAN 6.0 TO 6.0 AND CHANGING ANY VALUE LESS THAN -6.0 TO -6.0.
