R/V MOANA WAVE - EQ1 XBT DATA R. Lukas (JIMAR, US) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Announced availability: 1 August 1995 Last modified: 9 November 1995 Data Access R/V Moana Wave XBT data for the EQ1 cruise are available from the TOGA COARE International Project Office (TCIPO). Data can be accessed via anonymous FTP from tcdm.coare.ucar.edu in subdirectory /pub/COARE_DATA/ocean_mixing/Moana_EQ1_XBT. Data are also available from NOAA's National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) in Washington, D.C. Background The EQ1 cruise was conducted in April-May 1992. The Moana Wave departed Guam on 17 April 1992 and headed to 5N, 133E to locate an ATLAS mooring along 133E. During the transit, the decision was made to shift the mooring site to 2N, 137E (rather than 2N, 133E). The cruise then included a northward transect along 143E, a southward transect along 147E, and an equatorial transect from 150E to 170E, ending in Majuro on 14 May 1992. During the EQ1 cruise, a total of 25 T-4 XBTs were launched in support of TOGA thermal structure mapping. Data from 18 profiles were sent via GOES satellite to provide realtime ocean thermal structure information to the GTS.
