Zooplankton and Phytoplankton in the North Atlantic The complete SAHFOS "Continuous Plankton Recorder" data set contains over 170,000 samples, sampled from 1946 to the present in the North Atlantic and North Sea regions. The data present here are only a SMALL SAMPLING SUBSET of the SAHFOS data, This sample covers only the years from 1995-1999, and demonstrates the geographic coverage and the species coverage sampled by this project. For more information or to get the complete SAHFOS database, please go to the SAHFOS web site http://www.npm.ac.uk/sahfos/sahfos.html or contact Darren Stevens, Database Manager ( dpst@mail.pml.ac.uk ). - - - - - - - - Sampling Methods (written by Todd O'Brien at NODC, not by SAHFOS): Please refer to the SAHFOS website for the most up-to-date information. Included is a PDF snap-shot of the SAHFOS CPR sampler description. The count values in these data sets represent the number of that species/group found in roughly three cubic meters of water. (Dividing the value by three will give an approximate "number per cubic meter of water" value.) The CPR sampler is towed horizontally at approximately 10 meters depth. - - - - - - - - NODC Data Accession Comment: This data accession completely replaces NODC Accession# 0000301. This new submission duplicates 100% of the zooplankton in that older accession, plus it contains phytoplankton measurements (absent in the previous submission.)
