Government Institution - An agency funded by the government

Marine Park - Managed and maintained as a park with a focus on education of users of the park resources, and more generally marine resources, on the appropriate use and conservation of scarce resources.

Marine Protected Area - Usually protected by Laws which strictly govern/limit the use of resources.

Non-Governmental Organization - Funded by Non-Govt. sources, with mainly voluntary input.

Research Laboratory - Marine Laboratory which conducts research on the marine ecosystems. May be a teaching laboratory, affiliated to a University or institution of higher learning.

Research Organisation - Organisation involved in mult-disciplinary research.

University Research Lab - Attached to a university, conducts research and trains graduate students.
