Satellite Data Animations

Provided here are some satellite data animations the Satellite Oceanography Team has assembled for various purposes. Please read carefully the following notes:

• Most of these animations were not originally intended for distribution over the web and are generally VERY LARGE. Downloads may take a long time (or may not be possible at all) depending on your internet connection speed.
• These animations are very experimental in nature and are not the highest possible quality. If you would like an animation tailored for your needs, please send an email to the NODC satellite oceanography team and we will try to accomodate your request.
• If your web browser is configured to play the animations in your browser window, the first time the animation plays it may be very choppy as the animation itself is streamed into your browser window. Once it has fully loaded and played once, restart the animation and it should play much more smoothly. You can always "right click" the following links to directly download the animations to your system: on Netscape, right-click and select "Save link target as..." and on Internet Explorer, right-click and select "Save target as..."
• While it is generally bad form to distribute a satellite image without some sort of color scale indicating the values associated with each color, some of these animations do not contain such a scale in an attempt to minimize the size of the animation files. The following color scale is one that is commonly used in our sea surface temperature (SST) animations. It is provided for reference though may not be precisely the same one used in any given animation. The units are in degrees Celsius.
