Subject: Archival buoy data updated

In light of recent wave climate studies by Scott Woodruff (NOAA), the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) and the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) found some errors in the archival data for buoy stations EB10, 42001, 46011, 46003, and 44011.  NODC has updated their archival holdings of buoy data, which are available at http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/BUOY/buoy.html, as indicated below.

a. Station EB10 for September 1975
   URL: ftp://ftp.nodc.noaa.gov/pub/f291/197509/eb10__197509

   Error: Significant Wave Heights of 19.7 meters on September
   25, 1975 at 0100, 0200, 0400, 0500, 0700, 0800, 1000, 1100, 1300,
   1400, 1600, 1700, 1900, 2000, 2200, and 2300 UTC are erroneous.

   Action: Removed Record B (Environmental Data Record) and reset the
   Presence of Record B indicator from Y to N for the observations for
   above records.

b. Station 42001 for June 1979

   Error: Significant Wave Height of 37.0 meters and Sea Surface
   Temperature of 47.11 are erroneous.

   Action: Removed Significant Wave Heights and Average Periods from
   Record B (Environmental Data Record), removed Record C
   (Nondirectional Wave Spectra Data Record), and reset the Presence of
   Record ‘C’ indicator from Y to N for the observations for June 23,
   1979, 2100 UTC. In reviewing the wave record, the Temperature (Sea
   Surface) in Record C for the same date and time was also erroneous
   and removed from the Record B.

c. Station 46011 for October 1980

   Error: Significant Wave Height of 39.5 meters is erroneous for
   October 7, 1980, 1800 UTC.

   Action: Removed Significant Wave Heights and Average Periods from
   Record B (Environmental Data Record), removed Record C
   (Nondirectional Wave Spectra Data Record), and reset the Presence of
   Record ‘C’ indicator from Y to N for the observations for October 7,
   1980, 1800 UTC.

d. Station 46003 for March 1982
   URL: ftp://ftp.nodc.noaa.gov/pub/f291/198103/46003_198103

   Error: Significant Wave Height of 19.1 meters at March 16,
   1982, 1000 UTC and Significant Wave Height of 19.4 meters at March
   16, 1982, 1200 UTC are erroneous.

   Action: Removed Significant Wave Heights and Average Periods from
   Record B (Environmental Data Record), removed Record C
   (Nondirectional Wave Spectra Data Record), and reset the Presence of
   Record ‘C’ indicator from Y to N for the observations for March 16,
   1982, 1000 UTC and 1200 UTC.

e. Station 44011 for June 1986 and 1989

   Error: The file for June 1986 contains the data for June 1989.  And,
   the last eleven records in the June 1989 file are duplicates of the
   previous eleven records.

   Action: Removed the file for June 1986 and removed the eleven
   duplicate records in the file for June 1989.
